My deepest and sincerest apologies to all those who signed up for The Zombie Bang this year but due to surprisingly+wildly increased real life pressures on admin, running this bang this year has become untenable.

I genuinely hope I will have the time to run it next year for October 2022, and I'm certainly open to adding additional admin or mods so that what has happened this year doesn't happen again.

I'm so sorry, everybody. I hope you all have an amazing autumn and to, perhaps, see you next year.

The Zombie Bang 2021 Schedule

July 1-31st - Sign-ups!

August 7st - Author check-in #1 via e-mail. Required: a story outline and/or >1k words

August 18th - Authors submit their fic’s omega details via Google form

August 25th - all authors’ fic details (but nothing of the author’s identity) will be released publicly on dreamwidth for fanworkers to peruse in anticipation of claiming their top 5 on August 29th.

August 29th - Claims! 12PM Central Time. Claims will last as long as it takes to get every author a fanworker. As soon as all fics have been claimed, the thread will be locked and Zombie Bang will email contact details to paired authors and fanworkers within the week.

September 5th - Author check-in #2. Required: fanworkers have seen their author's fics. Authors have a beta. Stories are >60% finished.

September 19th - October posting schedule will be announced!

September 26th - Final check-in! Authors send in their completed story & fanworkers' almost-completed paired fanwork.

Posting Information for October!

Authors and artists can begin posting on October 1st! Authors have a maximum of 4 chapters of their story that they can submit throughout the month if they want (if they'd rather submit their story all at once, or over 2 or 3 chapters that is excellent as well). Authors and fanworkers, please coordinate on when and where to post if you need to.

If you are posting to AO3, the collection name is TheZombieBang2020, link. If you would like to post to AO3 but you don't have an AO3 account, please email thezombiebang@gmail.com and we'll see about getting you an invite.

The hard deadline will be Halloween, October 31st. The Zombie Bang 2020's Master Post of Fic and Art will be posted on its dreamwidth and tumblr accounts by November 7th.

Authors, it is September! We are moaning and shambling to the finish line! Please check in today and send ~80% of your fic to thezombiebang@gmail.com. It is highly recommended you CC your fic to your fanworker.

Something to look forward to: after careful consideration, The Zombie Bang has decided to scratch assigned dates for fan authors and paired fanworkers to post in October and instead allow submitting one's fics and paired works in maximum four chapter installments throughout October with the hard deadline of October 31st. If everyone has been keeping to the Zombie Bang's schedule (currently at or near 80% completion of their fic), or now has a month's notice with this post that this is an available option, then every author has the same relaxed schedule to finish their fic and the same opportunity to plan their four allotted chapter installments for October with their fanworker. This change requires extra communication between author and fanworker, so if you haven't yet contacted them yet, you must!
Standby for further details on posting (it warrants a separate post + email).

Last but not least, the next deadline will be September 21st (Monday), final check-in. Authors will need to send in their completed story & fanworkers their almost-completed paired fanwork.

On a personal note, The Zombie Bang's been a tremendous experience for this mod and these fics sound epic, riveting, truly everything I was hoping for. Title: Revenant
Summary: After returning from Tatooine, Rey can no longer ignore the strange side effects she's been suppressing since her revival. Especially after she saves Armitage Hux from the brink of death...only to witness those very same side effects take form in him.

Ratings/Warnings: Likely rating is M for mild horror/cannibalistic thoughts

Cool visuals?: Undead Snoke clone scuttling around Palpatine's Sith laboratory on Exegol, Rey and Hux eating raw meat to stave off hunger, Rey using the Force to heal Hux, Maul's shrine and the cracked Nightsisters' altar on Dathomir
Estimated Story Length: Between 5-10k

Fic 002
Fandom: Resident Evil

Title: Resident Evil 0
Summary: Rebecca Chambers is an 18-year-old medic who never expected to be recruited to the Special Tactics and Rescue Service. On her first mission with the team, she's trapped on a train that's overrun with zombies, the results of secret and illegal experiments. To escape--and survive to reveal the conspiracy--she must work with Billy Coen, the escaped convicted mass-murderer who she's trapped with. But the deception goes far deeper than Rebecca knows, and Albert Wesker--Captain of STARS--has sinister plans of his own.

Ratings/Warnings: Rated M, warning for violence/horror, death, police corruption, and one brief reference to noncon (it's a line of dialogue from a character who is canonically a rapist, no noncon happens in the story)

Cool visuals?: There are a lot of scenes that could have some interesting visuals. There's the attack on the train that's the opening cutscene of the game...there's various cool monster designs...I'm always happy to see anything with Wesker, maybe fighting zombies, or Wesker and Birkin killing Marcus for that matter...or something from the Wesker vs Ivan fight. If you want something less gory, there's always Rebecca and Billy--the story isn't definitely shippy, but I'd be fine with art being shippy or not. Really though you can draw anything you want from the fic.

Estimated Story Length: >20k

Preference for fanwork medium? Yes - art
Additional notes: Rebecca/Billy could be seen as romantic or platonic, I'm keeping it ambiguous like the game... there is also some (at least implied, not sure how obvious it will be in the finished story) past Wesker/Birkin.

The fic is mostly an adaptation of Resident Evil 0 (not a strict novelisation, as e.g. some lines of dialogue are different, there are extra scenes, etc) with some scenes from Umbrella Chronicles added in. It actually started out as my idea for what the first in a series of RE films that were actually faithful to the games would be like, but then became a novelisation instead of a script (and changed quite a bit from that early script in several ways.)
This has ended up quite a bit longer than the expected length for this event.

Fandom: Game of Thrones

Fic 004
Fandom: My Chemical Romance

Title: Untitled (as yet)
Summary: When Mikey disappeared in the middle of a resupply run, Frank’s first instinct was to assume that he’d fucked up; it was his job to get Mikey home and he'd blown it. Now, instead, Mikey was just another casualty of this new world where the streets belonged to ravening hordes of ever-present zombies, there was always something waiting to in dark corners to bite a guy’s head off, and humans were less the dominant species and more walking happy-meals (with attitude).

Except… there was something weird about the way Mikey had vanished, and a little bit of investigation showed up fast that everything was not as it might have seemed. Now Frank, Gerard and Ray are on a race against the clock (and the zombie hordes) to find Mikey and save him from a fate worse than zombies.

~~Douchebags.~~

Ratings/Warnings: Likely to be M, may be E (undecided about the how explicit some scenes will be at the moment, both in terms of sex and violence). Will include some graphic gore description (human vs zombie and human vs human fights). Will be heavy on swearwords (this band swears, a lot). One scene involves a 'kiss-or-die' type scenario (convince us you're a couple or face the consequences kind of thing)

Cool visuals?: - Being pursued through the streets by a horde of zombies (there's a few scenes where this happens)

~~- Being trapped between two groups of zombies and ducking down against a wall to try and avoid being seen~~

~~- Fleeing a zombie horde on the ground by climbing a fire escape, only to run into a human ambush on the rooftop~~

~~- A deliberate and showy demonstrative kiss (the aforementioned 'kiss-or-die' type scenario)~~

~~- Two characters being reunited in a makeshift cell, with a desperate, clinging-to-you-because-I'm-so-relieved-you're-alive embrace~~

~~- Declaration of feelings, with one character curled up in bed because they're injured, and the other sitting at their bedside~~

~~(In short, I am probably writing scenes to suit most preferences across this fic. Because plot, and feelings.)~~

Title: Let The Body Parts Hit The Floor
Summary: Envy Alighieri doesn't call himself a zombie in the strictest sense. It's not very sexy. But he is mostly dead, he does eat people, and bits do, occasionally, drop off. This would be fine...except he has somehow gotten involved with a very alive, very curious, very cute Edward Elric, who has secrets of his own. Fake dating, high school, paranormal, Edvy with teasing at other pairings.

Ratings/Warnings: This may change as I write, but I have a very dark sense of humour. Gore, cannibalism, NSFW at least to some degree, possible themes of suicide and mental health, probable M rating

Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe

Title: Snapped to Life (title is tentative).

Summary: It had only been a few months since Thanos' Snap when the sightings began. The faces of their dead friends showing up all around. Hallucinations, they thought. Visions of some sort. But the truth of what they were was much worse — and they soon realized, if they didn't figure out a way to reverse the Snap, there wasn't going to be a world left to save.

Ratings/Warnings: Probably M for some violence and zombie-typical actions

Cool visuals?: Everyone who was Snapped in canon comes back as a zombie and they keep being spotted — through trees, in hallways, etc. There will also be live Avenger vs Zombie!Avenger fights

Additional notes: The main characters/pairing is Steve and Natasha, with a lot of inclusion from the other OG!Avengers and various Zombie!Avengers but mostly Sam, Wanda, Bucky, T'Challa and the Guardians
